A very good cap badge for the German Army Mountain Troops (Gebirgsjager) in WWII. The edelweiss is an honorary emblem of bravery. The zinc and gilt badge has 5 holes for sewing onto the cap and it is a 2 piece construction with the edelweiss coming out, as seen by the 2 bent over tabs.
On the reverse it is stamped GB 42 although this is difficult to see. The GB was the maker, Gustav Brehmer. The central stalk has a hairline crack, which again is difficult to see.
