Rare pair of shoulder titles, 51st Prince of Wales's Own Sikhs (Frontier Force), 1903-1921

A rare original pair of silver plate shoulder titles with the regimental number '51' over the straight title 'Sikhs'. The origin of this regiment goes back to 1846 when Captain J S Hodgson raised the 1st Sikh Infantry following the 1st Sikh War. It was one of four Sikh Infantry regiments created to form the Frontier Brigade, named after the North West Frontier with Afghanistan and later became the Punjab Frontier Force in 1865. As part of the reorganisation of the Indian Army in 1903, the regimental name was changed to the 51st Sikhs (Frontier Force). It would undergo two more name changes and then be allocated to the Pakistan Army after Partition in 1947. (information from the National Army Museum). During the First World War the 51st Sikhs were involved in India, Aden, Egypt and Mesoptamia.

The shoulder titles are in excellent condition. All 4 fixing lugs are there but one of them is bent over. Postage is included.
